exclaims 'Augenblick, verweile doch, Du bist so schön.' This is a moment of timelessness which comes with understanding.
Let's return from timelessness to ordinary time. Without being aware of it always, you have been masters of your own time. In a bit, perhaps after your gap year, you will gradually lose your control over time, others will start to make demands on you, bosses, your partners, your family and at some stage you will look back and marvel at how life was when you finished your A-levels, you will wistfully remember the many months, years, when you still had so much time.
What I would wish for you is that you will not look back with regret and that you will be able to honestly say to yourselves that you used the amazing amount of time given to you wisely, that you used the greatest luxury life could have granted you wisely, to invest in yourselves, to reflect on yourselves, to search for meaning. As it is gradually taken from you, you will start to appreciate time, you will discover its inestimable value, not just in acquiring knowledge, but also in searching for more understanding. And may this search become the focus of a life-long interest.
Dear graduates, the teachers of this school and the management will miss you and will think fondly of the years we were given to spend together!
This is of course because you have all been such wonderful students and always a joy to teach.
